Project Overview
AirTrunk Kurri Kurri Data Centre is a landmark 540 MW hyperscale and artificial intelligence campus proposed on a 21-hectare brownfield site along Hart Road in Loxford, Kurri Kurri, New South Wales. Developed by AirTrunk, the project is positioned on the former Hydro Aluminium Kurri Kurri Smelter site within the Hunter Region, supporting the area’s transition from traditional industrial activity toward large-scale digital infrastructure. The development features a two-story data center facility with a planned height of 16.8 meters and a footprint of approximately 44,220 square meters. With a total power capacity of 540 MW, the campus is designed to accommodate large hyperscale deployments, cloud computing environments, and energy-intensive artificial intelligence workloads requiring substantial electrical and cooling infrastructure. The site benefits from direct high-voltage connectivity to Ausgrid’s 132kV transmission network, while its proximity to Snowy Hydro’s Kurri Kurri lateral infrastructure strengthens access to regional electricity resources. The cooling strategy incorporates closed-loop air-side economization, reducing reliance on local municipal water supplies while supporting thermal management across the facility. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling capability is also planned to support ultra-high-density AI clusters and next-generation computing architectures. The campus targets an operational power usage effectiveness below 1.15, with regional power purchase agreements supporting its broader energy strategy. By combining substantial power capacity, brownfield redevelopment, high-voltage connectivity, advanced cooling, and AI-ready infrastructure, the project is positioned to support large-scale digital workloads while contributing to the Hunter Region’s industrial and economic transformation.
