Project Summary

Amazon Montgomery City Missouri $10B Hyperscale AWS Data Center Campus

Status: Announced / Active Pre-Construction & Site Prep Phase   |   Location: Montgomery City, Montgomery County, MO 63361, USA

Project Overview

The Amazon Montgomery City Data Center Campus is a major hyperscale digital infrastructure development being built and operated by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Montgomery City, Montgomery County, Missouri, United States. Positioned along the Interstate 70 corridor between St. Louis and Columbia, the campus occupies a strategically located area within Missouri’s expanding technology and digital infrastructure ecosystem. The multi-billion-dollar development, associated with an investment of approximately $10 billion, represents one of the largest economic development initiatives in the state’s history and is planned as a large-scale, multi-building data center campus supporting cloud computing, enterprise applications, and high-density artificial intelligence workloads. The master plan encompasses expansive agricultural and industrial land parcels, with dedicated high-voltage electrical infrastructure and substation interconnections through Ameren Missouri to support the substantial energy requirements of the campus. Designed around Tier III-equivalent availability principles, the facilities incorporate redundant A+B electrical distribution paths, static UPS systems, and emergency diesel generation to provide resilience during utility disruptions and planned maintenance. Cooling infrastructure is expected to support increasingly dense computing environments, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling integration for advanced AI and accelerated-computing clusters. Network infrastructure is designed around diverse carrier-neutral fiber routes, providing connectivity to regional telecommunications networks, Midwest internet exchange infrastructure, and broader long-haul connectivity corridors. The campus is positioned to become a significant cloud and AI computing hub serving customers across the Midwest and wider United States, while its scale highlights the increasing requirements for land, electricity, fiber connectivity, and supporting infrastructure associated with next-generation hyperscale facilities. Through its substantial planned capacity and long-term investment, the Montgomery City development reinforces Missouri’s emerging role in the U.S. data center market and demonstrates AWS’s continued expansion of geographically distributed cloud and AI infrastructure.
