Project Summary

GreenSquare MEL1 Spotswood Melbourne 240MW AI Hyperscale Data Center

Status: Active Development / Planning Application Phase   |   Location: 44–76 Simcock Avenue, Spotswood, VIC 3015, Australia

Project Overview

The GreenSquare MEL1 Data Center is a high-density hyperscale and artificial intelligence digital infrastructure campus developed by GreenSquareDC and located at 44–76 Simcock Avenue in Spotswood, within the City of Hobsons Bay in Greater Melbourne, Victoria 3015, Australia. Established on a former industrial fuel depot site, the development represents the conversion of a strategically located industrial property into a next-generation data center campus serving the rapidly growing demand for cloud computing, AI infrastructure, and high-performance digital services. Its position in Melbourne’s inner-west digital infrastructure corridor provides convenient access to the West Gate Freeway, established telecommunications infrastructure, and major metropolitan fiber backbones, enabling connectivity with enterprise customers, cloud providers, network operators, and regional technology hubs. MEL1 is master-planned to deliver up to 240.0 MW of total critical IT load capacity, making it a substantial platform for energy-intensive artificial intelligence workloads, machine learning clusters, GPU-accelerated computing, hyperscale cloud platforms, and other high-density applications. Designed around Tier III-equivalent high-availability principles, the campus incorporates resilient electrical and mechanical infrastructure intended to support continuous operations while allowing maintenance of critical systems. Its electrical architecture includes a 220kV high-voltage grid connection and substation infrastructure capable of supporting the campus’s significant energy requirements, complemented by 2N static UPS configurations and emergency diesel generation for additional operational resilience. Cooling systems are designed around low-PUE liquid-to-chip direct cooling technology, allowing the facility to manage the elevated thermal densities associated with modern AI accelerators and high-performance computing systems. Dual carrier-neutral Meet-Me-Rooms provide diverse connectivity options and enable connections to Melbourne’s primary network exchange points and fiber routes. Together, the campus’s large-scale electrical capacity, advanced cooling infrastructure, resilient design, and carrier-neutral connectivity position MEL1 as a major digital infrastructure platform for Melbourne’s expanding hyperscale and AI economy.
