Project Overview

Aurelius Data Centre Campus is a proposed 400 MW greenfield AI hyperscale development planned on land at North Lanrigg near Cleland and Newhouse in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Promoted by ILI Group, the project represents the second core node of “The Stoics,” a planned £15 billion mega-scale Scottish digital infrastructure corridor comprising the Aurelius, Cato in Fife, and Rufus in East Ayrshire campuses. The development is designed to provide sovereign, high-density computing infrastructure capable of supporting rapidly expanding artificial intelligence, cloud computing, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads. With a planned 400 MW power capacity, Aurelius is intended to accommodate large-scale AI deployments requiring substantial electricity and advanced thermal management, including model training, inference, accelerated computing, and enterprise cloud applications. The multi-building campus is expected to incorporate high-voltage electrical substations and dedicated grid infrastructure to provide the reliable power supply required for mission-critical hyperscale operations while supporting future capacity expansion. Advanced closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems are also planned to manage the substantial heat generated by high-density AI processors and accelerator hardware, enabling efficient operation at higher rack densities than conventional air-cooled data centers. The project is additionally aligned with regional Scottish renewable power generation, supporting a low-carbon electricity strategy as demand for energy-intensive AI infrastructure continues to increase. Its location in North Lanarkshire provides access to established transport, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure while placing the development within Scotland’s growing digital infrastructure ecosystem. By combining substantial power capacity, sovereign computing capabilities, renewable energy alignment, and next-generation cooling technology, Aurelius could become an important regional platform for AI and cloud services. Alongside Cato and Rufus, the campus forms part of ILI Group’s broader strategy to establish Scotland as a major European destination for sustainable, large-scale AI infrastructure.
