Status: Under Construction / Master Development | Location: Greater Calgary Region, Alberta, Canada
The Beacon AI Alberta Hyperscale Campuses project, developed by Beacon AI Centers and Nadia Partners, represents a major multi-gigawatt digital infrastructure initiative designed to strengthen Western Canada’s position in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Master planned to deliver up to 1,000 megawatts of gross utility capacity across strategically positioned sites within the Calgary and Edmonton regional technology corridors, the campuses are engineered to support intensive AI model training, machine learning, cloud computing, and large-scale high-performance compute workloads. Electrical infrastructure is planned around direct high-voltage grid interconnections with Alberta’s AESO transmission system, providing access to the province’s diverse energy mix, including natural gas generation and an expanding portfolio of renewable resources. Resiliency is supported through modular static uninterruptible power supply configurations, redundant electrical distribution systems, and dedicated standby emergency generation designed to maintain continuity during grid disturbances. The campuses are being designed for extreme computing densities, including liquid-cooled deployments exceeding 100 kW per rack, while incorporating ambient cold-air economization and waterless closed-loop cooling technologies to reduce water consumption and improve overall energy efficiency. Alberta’s naturally cool climate provides additional opportunities for efficient heat rejection and reduced mechanical cooling requirements. Connectivity infrastructure is another critical component, with diverse subterranean dark-fiber pathways planned to provide low-latency access to major North American internet exchanges, cloud networks, telecommunications providers, and international enterprise connectivity routes. By combining large-scale energy availability, advanced cooling, resilient infrastructure, and extensive fiber connectivity, the Beacon AI Alberta Hyperscale Campuses are positioned to become an important northern digital infrastructure hub supporting the rapidly expanding demands of artificial intelligence and next-generation computing.
