Status: Pre-Development & Engineering / Land Acquisition Completed | Location: Former Alcoa aluminum smelter site, adjacent to existing Bitdeer Rockdale facility (4069 Charles Martin Hall Rd), Milam County, TX
The Bitdeer Rockdale AI/HPC Campus Expansion is a high-density AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center development in Milam County, Texas, positioned on a 200-acre parcel acquired within the former Alcoa aluminum smelting site. Following a $100 million land acquisition in September 2026, Bitdeer's overall Rockdale footprint expanded to approximately 255 acres, creating additional room for the company's transition from digital asset mining infrastructure toward enterprise AI and HPC hosting. The site already features approximately 563 MW of energized grid capacity, while the development pipeline is planned to scale to as much as 742 MW, giving the campus a substantial power foundation for future high-density computing deployments. This available electrical infrastructure is a major advantage for AI data center development, where GPU clusters and accelerated computing systems require significantly greater power densities than traditional enterprise workloads. Bitdeer is also engineering the campus to support direct-to-chip liquid cooling, a technology suited to managing the concentrated thermal loads generated by high-performance GPU infrastructure and enabling higher rack densities. The development leverages direct access to the ERCOT high-voltage power network, providing connectivity to Texas' large and diverse electricity market. The reuse of a former industrial site also provides an infrastructure advantage by enabling large-scale digital infrastructure development on land previously dedicated to heavy industrial operations. The Rockdale campus is therefore evolving beyond its original role in cryptocurrency mining toward a broader computing platform capable of serving AI training, inference, HPC and enterprise workloads. Its combination of substantial energized power, additional planned capacity, an expanded 255-acre footprint and advanced liquid cooling creates a foundation for phased AI infrastructure growth. By repurposing an established industrial location while leveraging existing electrical infrastructure, Bitdeer can position the Rockdale campus to participate in the rapidly expanding demand for AI and high-performance computing capacity across Texas and the wider U.S. market.
