Project Mustang is a proposed 665-acre hyperscale and AI data center campus in eastern Williamson County, Texas, developed jointly by PowerHouse Data Centers and Big Watt Digital Infrastructure. Located at 3301 FM 112 just east of Taylor, the development is designed as a multi-building computing campus that combines high-density data center facilities with dedicated electrical substations and behind-the-meter power generation. A key feature of Mustang is its strategy for reducing dependence on the wider ERCOT grid, using dedicated on-site generation to provide additional power capacity and help manage grid constraints associated with large-scale AI computing. This approach is particularly relevant as data center developments in Texas seek substantial amounts of electricity for GPU-intensive workloads while ERCOT faces growing demand from data centers and other large power users. The campus is planned to incorporate low-emission EPA Tier 4 generator technology, providing on-site generation with tighter emissions controls than conventional generator systems. Dedicated high-voltage power delivery and electrical substations are also planned to support the continuous and high-density electrical requirements of multiple data center buildings. Cooling is another important element of the development, with closed-loop industrial water cooling systems designed to provide thermal management for high-density computing while limiting reliance on continuous external water supplies. The 665-acre site provides substantial room for phased construction, allowing additional buildings and supporting infrastructure to be developed as demand for AI, cloud and hyperscale computing capacity grows. Rather than relying solely on traditional grid-supplied power, Project Mustang combines utility infrastructure with behind-the-meter generation to create a more flexible energy model for a large computing campus. By bringing together extensive land, dedicated substations, high-voltage power delivery, on-site generation and closed-loop cooling, the development is positioned to support increasingly power-intensive AI and hyperscale workloads. Its location near Taylor also places the project within the rapidly expanding Central Texas data center market, where access to reliable power has become a critical factor in the development of next-generation digital infrastructure.
