Project Overview

The Cato Data Centre Campus is a proposed £5 billion-plus ultra-hyperscale digital infrastructure development planned across approximately 280,000 square meters of land at Camilla Farm near Auchtertool in Fife, Scotland. Developed by ILI Group, the project is envisioned as the anchor campus of “The Stoics,” a planned network of three Scottish AI hyperscale hubs designed to support the rapidly increasing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing capacity. The Cato campus is master-planned for up to 600 MW of power, positioning it among the largest proposed data center developments in Scotland and providing substantial capacity for high-density AI, high-performance computing, and hyperscale cloud workloads. The architectural concept features a series of stepped buildings clad in anodized aluminum, creating a distinctive modern campus while allowing the large-scale facility to integrate with the surrounding landscape. A key strategic advantage of the site is its proximity to existing electricity infrastructure near the Mossmorran industrial complex, potentially providing access to significant grid capacity required for an ultra-high-density computing environment. The planned infrastructure is also expected to incorporate closed-loop liquid cooling architectures, enabling efficient heat management for advanced AI processors and other high-performance computing equipment while reducing dependence on conventional water-intensive cooling systems. The campus is designed around a 100% renewable energy strategy, supporting ILI Group’s broader objective of developing low-carbon digital infrastructure in Scotland. Beyond its individual scale, Cato could play an important role in establishing Scotland as a competitive destination for next-generation AI infrastructure by combining large-scale power availability, renewable energy sourcing, advanced cooling technologies, and strategic grid connectivity. If delivered as planned, the development would represent a major investment in the region’s digital economy and provide significant long-term capacity for AI and cloud services across the United Kingdom and European markets.
