Crane Clean Energy Center AI Campus Microsoft Constellation Nuclear Data Center

Status: Under Construction / Master Development   |   Location: 2625 River Road, Middletown, Pennsylvania 17057

Project Overview

The Crane Clean Energy Center AI Campus in Middletown, Pennsylvania, represents a major zero-carbon nuclear-powered digital infrastructure development anchored by Constellation Energy and Microsoft. Planned around the restart of Three Mile Island Unit 1, which has been renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center in honor of former Constellation CEO Chris Crane, the development is designed to provide approximately 835 megawatts of generation capacity, with a substantial portion dedicated to high-density data center operations. The campus is expected to support advanced Microsoft Azure artificial intelligence workloads, enterprise cloud services, machine learning applications, and other energy-intensive computing requirements. Power supply is anchored by a long-term power purchase agreement covering the plant’s clean energy generation, providing continuous nuclear baseload electricity while connecting into the PJM Interconnection grid. Electrical resiliency is further supported through modular static uninterruptible power supply architectures, redundant distribution systems, and dedicated standby emergency generation. Engineered for ultra-high-density AI server deployments that can exceed 100 kW per rack, the facility incorporates advanced thermal-management technologies, including closed-loop cooling systems and direct-to-chip liquid cooling, to efficiently remove heat from next-generation computing infrastructure while reducing operational water consumption. The campus also benefits from its strategic location within the Mid-Atlantic technology and telecommunications ecosystem, with diverse subterranean dark-fiber pathways providing resilient, low-latency connectivity to regional fiber corridors, cloud infrastructure, enterprise networks, and national digital platforms. By combining nuclear generation, high-density computing, advanced cooling, resilient electrical infrastructure, and extensive telecommunications connectivity, the Crane Clean Energy Center AI Campus is positioned as a significant carbon-free computing hub supporting the rapidly expanding infrastructure requirements of artificial intelligence and hyperscale cloud services.
