Status: Proposed / Active Regulatory & Municipal Review Phase | Location: Haynes Road (West of Clive), Lacombe County, AB T0C 0Y0, Canada
The Data Centre West of Clive is a modular digital infrastructure and behind-the-meter energy development proposed by Armada Nowlit, a joint development partnership between Armada Power & Data and Nowlit Energy. Located on a 4.3-acre site off Haynes Road, immediately west of the Village of Clive in Lacombe County, Central Alberta, Canada, the project is designed to combine local energy resources with scalable high-density computing infrastructure. Master-planned to provide approximately 19.8 MW of critical IT load capacity, the facility is intended to support energy-intensive digital workloads including artificial intelligence applications, machine learning model training, high-performance data processing, and other compute-intensive services. A defining element of the development is its integrated behind-the-meter energy model, which incorporates an on-site natural gas-fired power generation plant designed to supply electricity directly to the data center and reduce exposure to conventional grid capacity constraints. This configuration allows the project to leverage Alberta’s established natural gas resources while creating a dedicated energy platform for digital infrastructure operations. Engineered around Tier III-equivalent availability principles, the modular facility is planned with resilient electrical and mechanical systems suitable for continuous computing operations. Its cooling architecture combines specialized air and liquid cooling technologies to accommodate varying server densities and the thermal requirements of advanced computing equipment. Containerized and modular server bays provide flexibility for phased deployment, allowing computing capacity to be expanded as demand develops without requiring the entire facility to be constructed simultaneously. Direct fiber connectivity is also planned to link the site with regional Alberta optical networks, providing high-capacity communications for cloud services, enterprise workloads, AI applications, and data-intensive operations. By integrating modular data center construction, on-site generation, advanced cooling, and regional fiber connectivity, the Data Centre West of Clive represents a localized approach to deploying scalable digital infrastructure close to Alberta’s energy resources.
