Project Overview

EcoDataCenter 2 in Östersund, Sweden, is a flagship 150 MW sustainable data center campus purpose-built to support the next generation of high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and other compute-intensive digital workloads. Designed with sustainability at its core, the campus is constructed using climate-friendly mass timber and other low-carbon building materials, significantly reducing its environmental footprint compared to conventional data center developments. The facility operates entirely on 100% renewable electricity supplied through local hydropower and wind energy generated by Jämtkraft, enabling customers to deploy large-scale digital infrastructure with minimal carbon emissions. Engineered for advanced AI and GPU-based computing, EcoDataCenter 2 is equipped with direct liquid cooling infrastructure and immersion cooling readiness, supporting high-density rack deployments required for modern AI training, inference, and HPC applications. Beyond energy efficiency, the campus embraces a circular economy approach by recovering excess heat generated from IT operations and exporting it to its partner WA3RM, where it is reused to power commercial greenhouse food production, transforming waste energy into a valuable community resource. Strategically located in northern Sweden, the campus also benefits from a naturally cool climate that further enhances operational efficiency and cooling performance. Combining renewable energy, innovative cooling technologies, sustainable construction, and circular resource management, EcoDataCenter 2 represents one of Europe’s most environmentally advanced AI-ready data center campuses and a benchmark for sustainable digital infrastructure development.
