EDF OpCore Montereau AI Data Center France Hyperscale Campus

Status: Under Construction / Master Development   |   Location: Former Montereau Thermal Power Station Site, Montereau-Fault-Yonne, 77130, France

Project Overview

The EDF OpCore Montereau AI Data Center in Montereau-Fault-Yonne, France, represents a major brownfield digital infrastructure redevelopment by OpCore in strategic partnership with Électricité de France (EDF). Located on the former Montereau thermal power station site in the Île-de-France region, the project is designed to transform an established industrial energy location into a next-generation computing campus supporting artificial intelligence training, machine learning, high-performance computing, and hyperscale digital workloads. The development is planned to provide up to 200 megawatts of gross utility capacity and approximately 160 megawatts of critical IT load, enabling large-scale deployments of advanced computing infrastructure. Its electrical architecture is centered on high-voltage connections to France’s RTE transmission network, providing access to the country’s low-carbon electricity mix, including nuclear and renewable generation. Resiliency is reinforced through static modular uninterruptible power supply systems, redundant electrical distribution, and dedicated standby emergency generation designed to maintain continuity during grid interruptions. Engineered for extreme compute densities exceeding 100 kW per rack, the facility incorporates advanced thermal-management infrastructure, including closed-loop waterless cooling and direct-to-chip liquid cooling technologies, helping reduce operational water consumption while supporting demanding AI workloads. The campus also benefits from its strategic position outside the highly concentrated Paris data center market, providing an alternative location for operators seeking substantial electrical capacity while maintaining access to the capital’s digital ecosystem. Diverse subterranean dark-fiber pathways are planned to provide resilient, low-latency connectivity to Paris internet exchanges, major French and Western European telecommunications corridors, hyperscale cloud infrastructure, and enterprise networks. By combining brownfield redevelopment, low-carbon energy access, high-density computing capabilities, advanced cooling systems, and strong connectivity, the Montereau campus is positioned as an important emerging AI infrastructure hub in the European market.
