Osaka Japan Equinix 15MW OS6 IBX Edge Colocation Data Center

Status: Under Construction / Active Development   |   Location: 1-chōme-10 Kyūtarōmachi, Chūō Ward, Osaka, 541-0056, Japan

Project Overview

The Equinix OS6 Data Center, tentatively designated during the planning stage as the Kyutarocho Building, is a purpose-built, high-density International Business Exchange (IBX) and mixed-use facility located at 1-chōme-10 Kyūtarōmachi in Chūō Ward, Osaka, Japan. Developed to expand Equinix’s presence in central Osaka, the project comprises a 13-story main structure with an additional penthouse level and stands approximately 86.3 meters tall. Designed by Nikken Sekkei and constructed by Obayashi Corporation, the facility incorporates advanced seismic isolation measures intended to enhance structural resilience and support continuity of critical data center operations during major earthquakes. OS6 is planned as a carrier-neutral colocation and interconnection facility, providing enterprises, cloud service providers, telecommunications carriers, and digital businesses with access to Equinix’s interconnected ecosystem in the Kansai region. The facility is expected to support high-density computing environments while enabling customers to establish direct connections to cloud platforms, network providers, and other digital infrastructure services. Through Equinix’s software-defined interconnection capabilities, customers can connect their workloads with the broader Kansai digital ecosystem and access major regional internet exchanges, including BBIX, JPIX, and JPNAP. Its central Osaka location also provides proximity to important telecommunications routes and international connectivity infrastructure, including subsea cable landing networks serving Japan. By combining a strategically located urban facility with carrier-neutral connectivity, seismic resilience, and access to a broad network ecosystem, OS6 is positioned to strengthen Equinix’s interconnection platform in Osaka. The development is particularly relevant to enterprises and digital service providers seeking low-latency connectivity, scalable colocation, cloud access, and resilient infrastructure close to the commercial center of the Kansai market.
