Osaka Japan NTT SmartConnect 10MW Nipponbashi Edge Colocation Data Center

Status: Operational / Key Interconnection Hub   |   Location: 5-chōme-8-21 Nipponbashi, Naniwa Ward, Osaka, 556-0005, Japan

Project Overview

The NTT Nipponbashi Data Center is a purpose-built, high-reliability urban edge facility owned and operated by NTT SmartConnect CORPORATION at 5-chōme-8-21 Nipponbashi, Naniwa Ward, Osaka, Japan. Housed within the 15-story NTT West Nipponbashi Building, the facility functions as a strategic network interconnection and enterprise colocation hub, providing customers with access to NTT’s extensive telecommunications infrastructure and connectivity across the Osaka metropolitan area. The data center is integrated with NTT’s secure underground cable tunnel network, known as TODO, supporting resilient connections to major telecommunications routes and network facilities. Designed to support mission-critical workloads, the facility incorporates a base-isolated seismic structure using laminated rubber bearings and oil dampers to reduce the impact of strong ground motion and enhance operational resilience during major earthquakes. Its infrastructure includes dual-path utility feeds and backup generation systems with approximately 72 hours of fuel autonomy, helping maintain critical IT and telecommunications services during extended utility interruptions. Sub-floor air distribution supports controlled environmental conditions within the data halls and contributes to reliable operation of customer equipment. The facility’s urban location provides low-latency connectivity to central Osaka and the city’s dense commercial and telecommunications ecosystem, making it suitable for domestic cloud providers, telecom operators, financial institutions, and enterprise customers with demanding connectivity and availability requirements. Its proximity to the Dojima carrier ecosystem further strengthens its network value by enabling efficient access to major regional communication routes. By combining seismic protection, redundant utility infrastructure, extended backup power, and direct integration with NTT’s network, the NTT Nipponbashi Data Center provides a resilient digital infrastructure platform for organizations requiring secure, highly connected, and reliable data center services in Osaka.
