Equinix SY9x Sydney: 28MW Hyperscale AI Data Center
Status: Operational / Phase 2 Expansion (April 2026) | Location: sydney NSW 2142, Australia
Project Overview
As of April 2026, SY9x stands as the flagship hyperscale facility within the Equinix Sydney portfolio, purpose-built to meet the demands of the world’s largest cloud and AI service providers. Classified as an xScale™ data center, the site is engineered for core, large-scale deployments rather than traditional retail colocation, enabling hyperscalers to deploy expansive, dedicated infrastructure environments. Strategically located in Rosehill, New South Wales, adjacent to the rapidly growing Parramatta CBD, SY9x benefits from both proximity to major enterprise demand centers and access to critical power and fiber infrastructure. The facility itself is a robust triple-story structure constructed using pre-cast reinforced concrete, designed to support high floor loading and dense compute configurations. In 2026, SY9x functions as a true “Core Hub” within the broader Sydney metro ecosystem, allowing hyperscale customers to seamlessly extend their deployments from retail IBX sites such as SY1–SY5 into a high-capacity, high-density environment optimized for advanced cloud architectures and AI training clusters. This integration enables a hybrid model where latency-sensitive interconnection remains at IBX facilities, while compute-intensive workloads scale efficiently within SY9x’s purpose-built hyperscale infrastructure.
