Project Overview

The Galicia Green Data Center, also known as GAL1, is a major greenfield digital infrastructure development being spearheaded by clean energy and digital infrastructure developer Ingenostrum (Nostrum) in Curtis–Teixeiro, A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. Located within the Polígono Industrial Teixeiro, the project is positioned as a significant hyperscale-grade data center development in Northwest Spain and is designed to strengthen Galicia’s emerging role in the European digital infrastructure market. Spanning more than 40,000 square meters of industrial land, the development represents an investment of approximately €400 million and is master-planned to provide an initial 15 MW of critical IT load capacity, with the potential to scale significantly and support up to 30,000 servers. Designed around Tier III-equivalent high-availability principles, GAL1 is intended to provide resilient infrastructure for cloud computing, enterprise applications, artificial intelligence and other data-intensive workloads. The facility is planned to operate using locally sourced renewable electricity, drawing on Galicia’s strong wind and hydroelectric resources alongside nearby biomass generation assets. Its energy strategy is intended to reduce the carbon intensity of large-scale computing while supporting the region’s broader renewable energy ecosystem. GAL1 is also planned to incorporate energy-efficient cooling technologies designed to achieve a low power usage effectiveness profile, with liquid-cooling readiness supporting higher-density computing and future AI workloads. Connectivity infrastructure is another key element of the development, with planned dark-fiber routes connecting the facility to Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña and providing access to wider Iberian fiber backbone networks. Its location within an established industrial area offers access to regional infrastructure, transportation networks and energy resources. With renewable energy sourcing, scalable computing capacity, advanced cooling and strategic fiber connectivity, the Galicia Green Data Center represents an important proposed addition to Spain’s data center landscape and could support the continued growth of cloud, AI and digital services across Galicia and the wider Iberian Peninsula.
