Project Summary

Diode Ventures Goldfinch Technology Park Hyperscale Campus Alberta

Status: Planned / Permitted   |   Location: Township Rd 222 / Range Rd 270, Carseland, Wheatland County, AB T0L 0J0, Canada

Project Overview

Goldfinch Technology Park is a planned hyperscale data center campus spanning approximately 575 acres off Township Road 222 in Wheatland County near Carseland, Alberta, around 50 kilometers east of Calgary. Developed by Diode Ventures, the project is planned as a large-scale, multi-building digital infrastructure hub designed to accommodate high-density computing requirements associated with enterprise cloud services, artificial intelligence training, and high-performance computing workloads. The master-planned campus is targeting up to 950 MW of total utility power demand requested through the Alberta Electric System Operator, reflecting the substantial electrical requirements associated with large hyperscale and AI-oriented facilities. The project’s large land footprint provides room for phased development and multiple data center buildings, supporting the potential expansion of computing capacity as customer requirements and power infrastructure develop. In August 2026, the project received approval for its Area Concept Plan and land redesignation to Industrial General, establishing an important planning and land-use framework for the proposed technology park. Goldfinch Technology Park also incorporates a cooling strategy designed around Alberta’s climatic conditions and water conservation requirements. The planned facilities are expected to use advanced closed-loop dry cooling, reducing dependence on water-intensive cooling systems and supporting the project’s commitment to zero local groundwater abstraction. Alberta’s naturally cold ambient climate can further support heat rejection and improve cooling efficiency, an important consideration for high-density computing environments. The combination of a large development footprint, substantial planned power demand, water-conscious cooling infrastructure, and proximity to Calgary’s growing technology and industrial ecosystem positions Goldfinch Technology Park as a significant proposed data center development in Alberta. Its planned focus on AI training, enterprise cloud, and high-performance computing also reflects the increasing demand for large-scale computing infrastructure across Western Canada.
