Project Overview

The Google Journey JNR1A Data Center, located at 1362 Red Creek Road in Haskell, Texas, within the broader Abilene regional technology corridor, represents a major hyperscale expansion supporting Google Cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in West Texas. The multi-building campus is designed to accommodate large-scale AI model training, enterprise cloud computing, machine learning, and real-time inference workloads, with an estimated 250.0 MW of gross utility power capacity and approximately 200.0 MW of critical IT load. Electrical infrastructure is supported through high-voltage grid interconnections involving AEP Texas and the ERCOT power market, providing access to the substantial electricity resources required for large-scale compute operations. Power resilience is further supported by static modular 2N and Block N+1 uninterruptible power supply systems, alongside standby emergency diesel generators designed to maintain critical operations during utility interruptions. The campus incorporates advanced thermal management infrastructure combining high-efficiency air-cooled chillers with direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems designed for high-density TPU and GPU server racks. These cooling technologies enable the facility to manage the significant heat loads generated by accelerated computing infrastructure while supporting efficient operation across demanding AI workloads. Strategically located along major long-haul fiber transit routes, JNR1A is designed to provide robust connectivity to Google’s broader cloud infrastructure ecosystem. Subterranean dark-fiber entry vaults and dual carrier-neutral meet-me rooms support diverse network connectivity and carrier interconnection, while dedicated high-capacity routes provide efficient access to Google Cloud regions and digital services. Zero-trust biometric access controls and continuous physical security measures are designed to protect critical infrastructure, computing equipment, and restricted operational areas. With its substantial power capacity, advanced cooling architecture, extensive fiber connectivity, and security infrastructure, JNR1A represents an important component of Google’s expanding hyperscale and AI infrastructure footprint in Texas.
