Project Overview

The GS Donghae AI Data Center is a monumental 2.4 GW master-planned artificial intelligence infrastructure development by GS Group in Donghae, Gangwon Province, South Korea. Positioned as one of Asia’s most ambitious single-site AI data center projects, the campus is designed to address the rapidly increasing demand for large-scale computing capacity required by artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing applications. The development represents approximately 30 trillion won, equivalent to around $19.4 billion, in direct infrastructure investment and is planned to accommodate ultra-dense GPU clusters capable of supporting demanding computational workloads. Its substantial power capacity is intended to provide the energy required for next-generation AI systems, including large-scale foundational model training, inference, accelerated computing, and sovereign AI applications. The campus is expected to incorporate advanced data center infrastructure capable of supporting high-density computing environments while maintaining reliable and efficient operations at scale. By developing a dedicated AI-focused computing ecosystem, GS Group aims to establish Donghae as an important hub for advanced digital infrastructure and AI development in the region. The project's large power footprint also highlights the growing relationship between energy availability and the deployment of next-generation AI infrastructure, where dense GPU clusters require significantly greater electrical and cooling capacity than conventional enterprise data centers. Its location in Gangwon Province provides an opportunity to combine large-scale digital infrastructure with regional energy and industrial resources. With its multi-gigawatt planned capacity, substantial investment commitment, and focus on foundational AI workloads, the GS Donghae AI Data Center represents the continued shift toward massive, purpose-built computing campuses designed to support the next generation of artificial intelligence development and sovereign computing capabilities.
