Stargate Michigan Data Center: Related Digital Specs

Status: Under Construction / Groundbreaking Active   |   Location: ~1,000-Acre Master Site, Off Michigan Avenue, Saline Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan 48176, United States

Project Overview

The Stargate Michigan Data Center Campus, nicknamed “The Barn,” is a multi-billion-dollar hyperscale artificial intelligence infrastructure development by Related Digital, designed specifically to support Oracle and OpenAI’s expanding AI computing requirements. Located across approximately 1,000 acres in Saline Township, Michigan, the project is planned with around 1 GW of power capacity, positioning it among the large-scale AI data center developments being pursued to support next-generation computational workloads. The campus is purpose-built for high-density GPU infrastructure, with the primary objective of supporting foundational AI model training and other computationally intensive workloads that require substantial processing capacity, power, and advanced data center systems. A notable aspect of the development is its approach to land use, with more than 750 acres of the overall site planned to remain as open space, helping preserve significant portions of the surrounding landscape while concentrating the data center infrastructure within the developed area. The large site footprint also provides flexibility for extensive supporting infrastructure and potential future expansion as demand for AI computing continues to accelerate. Designed around the requirements of hyperscale AI deployments, the campus is expected to accommodate dense computing environments capable of supporting large GPU clusters and high-performance workloads. Its strategic location in Michigan provides access to regional power and telecommunications infrastructure while positioning the development within the growing U.S. AI data center market. By combining substantial power capacity, dedicated AI infrastructure, hyperscale design, and extensive preserved open space, the Stargate Michigan campus represents the emerging generation of purpose-built facilities designed specifically for the computational demands of advanced artificial intelligence and foundational model development.
