Project Summary

Iridium Carretera Nacional Alcalá de Henares 50MW Hyperscale Data Center Madrid Spain

Status: Active Development / Construction Phase   |   Location: Carretera Nacional II, Alcalá de Henares, 28805 Madrid, Spain

Project Overview

The Iridium Carretera Nacional Data Center is a major hyperscale and cloud-colocation development located along the Carretera Nacional II corridor in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain. Developed by Iridium, the concessions and infrastructure development arm of ACS Group (Grupo ACS), the project represents a strategic expansion of large-scale digital infrastructure within Madrid’s rapidly developing eastern data center corridor. Master-planned to deliver approximately 50.0 MW of critical IT load capacity across 22,000 m² of technical space, the facility is designed to accommodate mission-critical hyperscale cloud platforms, enterprise computing environments, high-performance workloads, and high-density artificial intelligence (AI) deployments. The development is planned around resilient infrastructure aligned with Tier III equivalent standards, supporting continuous operations and maintenance flexibility for customers with demanding availability requirements. Its electrical architecture incorporates dual high-voltage grid connections through Iberdrola Distribución, providing additional resilience and supporting the substantial energy requirements associated with large-scale computing infrastructure. The facility is also designed with 2N/N+1 UPS redundancy, helping protect critical IT systems from electrical interruptions and infrastructure failures. To accommodate next-generation computing requirements, the data center includes direct liquid cooling capabilities, enabling efficient thermal management for high-density AI and HPC clusters where conventional air cooling can become increasingly challenging. Connectivity is another key component of the project, with low-latency fiber infrastructure linking the facility to Madrid’s core network exchanges, including MAD1-MAD4, as well as connections toward major subsea cable landing stations. This network positioning is expected to provide customers with access to diverse carriers, cloud ecosystems, and international connectivity routes. With its substantial capacity, resilient electrical design, advanced cooling capabilities, and strategic connectivity, the Iridium Carretera Nacional facility is positioned to support Madrid’s continued growth as a major European hub for hyperscale cloud, AI, and digital infrastructure.
