Status: Proposed / Planning & Permitting Phase | Location: US Highway 79 North (Between Jewett and Marquez), Leon County, TX 75846, United States
The Kahla Data Center Campus and BT Kahla Storage facility in Leon County, Texas, represents a major master-planned digital infrastructure and energy storage development proposed by Belltown Power Texas. Situated across several hundred acres along US Highway 79 between Jewett and Marquez, the development is designed to address growing computational demand within the ERCOT power market, particularly from artificial intelligence training, high-performance computing, and hyperscale cloud workloads. The campus is planned around approximately 1,500 MW of total gross power allocation and 1,200 MW of critical IT load, complemented by an integrated 200.9 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) intended to provide grid stabilization, load management, and additional energy resilience. High-voltage electricity is planned to be supplied through a direct connection to the regional ERCOT transmission network via a 345 kV interconnection associated with the Limestone and Gibbons Creek circuit lines. Thermal management is designed around high-efficiency air-cooled chillers combined with direct-to-chip liquid cooling architectures capable of supporting high-density GPU and accelerated-computing deployments while reducing local water requirements. The development’s location between the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metropolitan areas also provides strategic positioning within one of the United States’ largest energy and connectivity corridors. Network infrastructure is planned to include dual subterranean carrier-neutral fiber entry vaults, interconnected multi-building fiber backbones, high-capacity telecommunications pathways, and redundant connectivity infrastructure. Security systems are expected to incorporate controlled perimeter access, biometric authentication, surveillance, and zero-trust multi-factor physical and digital access controls. Together, the computing campus and integrated battery storage infrastructure are designed to support large-scale AI and cloud workloads while improving energy flexibility and grid resilience.
