Project Overview

The Larbert Data Centre Campus is a proposed flagship £1 billion green AI and hyperscale data center development situated on a 55-acre site at Glenbervie Business Park, Bellsdyke Road, Larbert, Scotland, UK. Developed by renewable energy and digital infrastructure developer Apatura Energy on land owned by Scottish Enterprise, the project is strategically positioned south of the M876 and is intended to take advantage of Scotland’s strong renewable energy resources. The campus is planned to provide up to 300 MW of total demand capacity, establishing a substantial infrastructure platform for the growing requirements of artificial intelligence, hyperscale cloud computing, and other energy-intensive digital workloads. The master plan incorporates modular, low-profile data halls, allowing the development to be delivered in scalable phases while maintaining a design approach intended to integrate the facilities with the surrounding environment. Sustainability is a central component of the proposed development, with the campus incorporating low-water cooling technologies designed to reduce water consumption compared with conventional cooling approaches. The project is also planned with district heating integration readiness, creating the potential to support heat-reuse opportunities and improve the overall efficiency of the wider energy ecosystem. Another key element is the planned direct connection to Apatura’s consented battery energy storage system (BESS) facility, located approximately two miles north of the campus, providing an additional component to the project’s energy strategy. The combination of renewable energy access, energy storage integration, modular infrastructure, and resource-efficient cooling is intended to create a more sustainable operating model for large-scale computing infrastructure. With its substantial planned capacity, strategic location, green infrastructure approach, and focus on AI and hyperscale workloads, the Larbert Data Centre Campus represents a significant proposed addition to Scotland’s emerging digital infrastructure landscape.
