Project Overview

MARA Matagorda Data Center is a large-scale 1,000 MW powered-land data center campus, with planned scalability to 2,000 MW, located across approximately 1,200 acres on Bieri Road in Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas. Developed by MARA Holdings in strategic partnership with Starwood Digital Ventures and HIF, the master-planned campus is designed to accommodate high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and flexible digital asset compute workloads within a large-scale power-intensive infrastructure environment. The substantial initial power capacity provides the foundation for a phased development model, while the planned expansion capability creates additional headroom for future computing requirements and increased tenant demand. The site benefits from direct access to high-voltage grid transmission infrastructure and is positioned approximately 90 miles southwest of Houston, providing proximity to one of Texas's major technology, energy, telecommunications, and business markets. The electrical design incorporates N+1 and N+2 redundancy configurations to provide multiple layers of power resilience for mission-critical computing environments and high-availability workloads. Cooling infrastructure is planned around closed-loop direct liquid cooling technology, supporting the thermal requirements of extreme rack densities associated with advanced HPC and AI systems. Connectivity infrastructure includes dual carrier-neutral Meet-Me-Rooms, creating diverse interconnection points for telecommunications carriers, cloud service providers, network operators, and enterprise customers. Multi-gigabit dark fiber interconnects further connect the campus with regional Texas fiber corridors, supporting high-bandwidth and low-latency data transmission requirements. The combination of large-scale power availability, extensive land resources, advanced liquid cooling, redundant electrical infrastructure, and carrier-neutral connectivity provides a framework for deploying multiple phases of high-density computing capacity. With its ability to serve both HPC and AI workloads and flexible digital asset compute applications, the MARA Matagorda Data Center campus represents a development model centered on large-scale power availability and adaptable computing infrastructure.
