Metrobloks Southfield Data Center is a proposed $1.5 billion high-density AI and enterprise colocation facility planned on a 12.19-acre site along Inkster Road in Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan. Developed by Los Angeles-based Metrobloks, the project is designed as a 109,683-square-foot, two-story data center capable of delivering up to 100 MW of power through a multi-phase buildout. The facility is being positioned to meet the rapidly increasing requirements of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, enterprise cloud, and other power-intensive digital workloads. Its infrastructure is expected to support rack densities exceeding 150 kW, allowing the campus to accommodate advanced AI servers, GPUs, and high-performance computing systems that generate significantly greater heat than conventional enterprise IT environments. To manage these thermal requirements, the development incorporates a dedicated closed-loop cooling system designed to minimize water consumption, with projected usage of only 10 to 20 gallons per day. This approach could significantly reduce the facility’s dependence on conventional water-intensive cooling infrastructure while supporting reliable operation at high compute densities. Power reliability is another central component of the project, with a custom-built DTE Energy electrical substation planned to provide dedicated electrical infrastructure and strengthen grid resilience for the campus. The multi-phase development model also provides flexibility to expand capacity as demand for AI and enterprise colocation services grows. With its combination of high power density, specialized cooling, dedicated electrical infrastructure, and proximity to the Detroit metropolitan technology and business market, Metrobloks Southfield represents the growing shift toward next-generation data centers specifically designed around the requirements of AI and high-performance computing.
