The Microsoft Alviso-Milpitas Data Center Campus, located at 1657 Alviso Milpitas Road in San Jose, California, represents a strategic multi-building hyperscale development positioned near the San Jose–Milpitas border in the heart of Silicon Valley. Spanning approximately 21 acres, the master-planned campus is designed to expand Microsoft Azure’s infrastructure capacity across Northern California while supporting cloud computing, low-latency edge services, enterprise applications, artificial intelligence, and other compute-intensive workloads. The development is engineered to provide approximately 90.0 MW of gross utility power capacity and 72.0 MW of critical IT load across multiple data center structures, providing substantial capacity for large-scale computing deployments. Utility infrastructure is supplied through high-voltage substation connections from Pacific Gas and Electric Company, with electrical resilience supported by static modular 2N uninterruptible power supply systems and emergency standby generator units. These systems are designed to maintain continuity for critical computing infrastructure during grid interruptions, equipment maintenance, and other electrical events. Thermal management incorporates advanced dry-cooling chiller systems combined with high-density direct-to-chip liquid cooling capabilities, allowing the campus to accommodate increasingly dense GPU and accelerated-computing racks while reducing dependence on water-intensive cooling methods. The facility is strategically positioned along major Bay Area fiber corridors, enabling strong connectivity to Silicon Valley’s established technology and telecommunications ecosystem. Subterranean dark-fiber entry vaults and dual carrier-neutral meet-me rooms provide access to diverse network carriers and connectivity providers, while direct express interconnects enable efficient connections to major Silicon Valley network exchange points and cloud ecosystems. Zero-trust biometric physical security controls provide layered protection for critical infrastructure, customer environments, and restricted operational areas. The campus therefore strengthens Microsoft’s hyperscale presence in one of the world’s most important technology markets.
