Status: Under Construction Phase | Location: Intersection of Cleveland Rd & Bittersweet Rd, Granger / Mishawaka, IN 46530, United States
The Microsoft Mishawaka Data Center Campus, located at the intersection of Cleveland Road and Bittersweet Road in the Granger–Mishawaka area of Indiana, represents a major hyperscale and artificial intelligence infrastructure development across the former St. Joe Farm site. Spanning more than 920 acres, the master-planned mega-campus is designed to establish a significant AI and cloud computing hub within Microsoft’s Midwest digital infrastructure network. The development is engineered for a total gross power capacity of up to 1,000 MW, or 1.0 GW, with approximately 800 MW allocated as critical IT load to support large-scale cloud platforms, artificial intelligence model training, high-performance computing, enterprise applications, and accelerated GPU workloads. Electrical infrastructure is expected to rely on dedicated high-voltage grid interconnections through Indiana Michigan Power, part of the AEP network, providing access to the substantial utility capacity required for a development of this scale. Power continuity is reinforced through static modular 2N and Block N+1 uninterruptible power supply systems, supported by standby emergency diesel generators for critical backup operations. The campus incorporates closed-loop cooling infrastructure alongside high-density direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems, allowing Microsoft to manage thermal loads from multi-kilowatt GPU racks while reducing dependence on fresh water for cooling operations. Strategically positioned near South Bend and within reach of major Midwest telecommunications corridors, the campus is designed to provide extensive network connectivity. Subterranean dark-fiber entry vaults and dual carrier-neutral meet-me rooms enable access to multiple network operators, while low-latency fiber connections toward Chicago network exchanges support regional and national data traffic. A 24/7 zero-trust biometric security architecture provides layered protection for critical infrastructure, computing equipment, and restricted operational areas. With its large land footprint, substantial electrical capacity, advanced cooling systems, and strong connectivity, the Mishawaka campus represents a major expansion of Microsoft’s AI and cloud infrastructure in the Midwest.
