Project Overview

The NEXTDC D2 Darwin Data Center is a high-density, AI-ready regional digital infrastructure facility developed by NEXTDC Limited in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Located at 8 Ryko Court, the facility directly adjoins NEXTDC’s existing D1 Darwin data center, expanding the company’s presence within a strategic Northern Australian connectivity hub. D2 is designed to strengthen Darwin’s role as a sovereign digital gateway between Australia and major Asia-Pacific markets, including Indonesia and Singapore, while supporting growing demand for cloud computing, enterprise applications, government services and other data-intensive workloads. The facility provides an additional 6 MW of critical IT load capacity, increasing the combined capacity of the Darwin campus to approximately 13 MW. Engineered to Tier III-equivalent standards, D2 incorporates resilient electrical infrastructure, including 2N redundant static UPS architecture and standby diesel generation, supporting continuity for mission-critical workloads. High-density cooling systems are also integrated into the facility’s design, with direct-to-chip liquid cooling capability suited to increasingly demanding artificial intelligence and accelerated-computing environments. Connectivity represents a major component of the development, with direct inter-facility links providing access to Vocus’s Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore Cable and Horizon-1 terrestrial network routes. These connections enhance access to international telecommunications infrastructure and provide lower-latency pathways between Northern Australia and key Asia-Pacific digital markets. The facility’s strategic location also supports data sovereignty requirements for organizations operating in government, enterprise and defence sectors. With additional computing capacity, resilient infrastructure, advanced cooling technologies and international connectivity, NEXTDC D2 strengthens Darwin’s position as an emerging regional data center and telecommunications hub serving Northern Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
