Status: In Planning / Proposed Development Phase | Location: Southport, 4215 Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
The NEXTDC GC1 Gold Coast Data Centre is an edge-hyperscale facility being developed by NEXTDC in Southport, Queensland, Australia, extending the operator’s sovereign digital infrastructure network into South East Queensland’s secondary technology and business corridor. Located in the 4215 Southport area of the Gold Coast, the facility is positioned to provide regional enterprises, cloud platforms, content providers, and technology-intensive businesses with access to resilient digital infrastructure closer to end users. GC1 is master-planned to deliver 6.0 MW of critical IT load capacity across approximately 4,600 square meters of technical space, creating a dedicated environment for scalable compute, cloud, networking, and edge deployments. Engineered to Tier IV fault-tolerant standards, the facility is designed to support high levels of resilience and continuity for mission-critical workloads. Its location on the Gold Coast also provides a strategic connectivity position between regional customers and Australia’s broader digital infrastructure ecosystem, with localized low-latency cloud access and direct connectivity pathways to Brisbane and national internet exchange points. This network architecture can support applications where responsive connectivity and proximity to users are important, including enterprise cloud services, digital platforms, content delivery, and distributed computing. GC1 is additionally designed with high-density liquid cooling readiness, allowing the facility to accommodate increasingly dense computing environments and emerging AI infrastructure with higher thermal requirements. The cooling capability is particularly relevant to regional artificial intelligence and edge-computing workloads, where demand for accelerated computing is expanding beyond traditional metropolitan data center clusters. Through its combination of Tier IV-oriented resilience, regional connectivity, dedicated technical capacity, and advanced cooling readiness, NEXTDC GC1 is positioned to strengthen the Gold Coast’s role within South East Queensland’s evolving data center and digital infrastructure landscape.
