NEXTDC S2 Sydney: 30MW Tier IV Fault-Tolerant AI Hub
Status: Operational / High-Density Expansion (April 2026) | Location: 6-8 Giffnock Avenue, Macquarie Park NSW 2113
Project Overview
As of April 2026, NEXTDC’s S2 Sydney facility stands as one of the most resilient and strategically important digital infrastructure assets in the Southern Hemisphere, reinforcing Sydney’s role as a critical hub for Asia-Pacific cloud and AI workloads. Designed as NEXTDC’s first Tier IV certified data center in New South Wales, S2 delivers 100% fault tolerance through fully redundant systems, ensuring continuous operation even under multiple simultaneous failure conditions. The 30MW campus is engineered to support both ultra-high-density AI compute and traditional enterprise workloads, balancing flexibility with performance at scale. At its core, the facility utilizes an isolated parallel bus architecture integrated with Piller Power Systems’ rotary UPS systems, enabling uninterrupted power delivery and stable cooling performance even during complete utility outages. As part of NEXTDC’s A$2.2 billion capital investment plan announced in April 2026, S2 is currently undergoing internal retrofitting to enhance its “AI Factory” capabilities, including denser rack configurations and improved thermal efficiency systems. The upgrade also strengthens its interconnection role within the Macquarie Park ecosystem, enabling direct, low-latency cross-connects to the adjacent S1 and S3 facilities. Together, these campuses form a unified 150MW+ super-cluster designed to meet the rising demand for sovereign AI infrastructure and hyperscale cloud expansion across Australia.
