Status: Under Development / Announced | Location: PORTS-Pike Technology Campus, Remediated DOE Federal & Private Land, Pike County, OH 45661, United States
The PORTS Pike Technology Campus, located on remediated federal and private land in Pike County, Ohio, represents a major gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure development led by SB Energy to support next-generation AI supercomputing for OpenAI. Developed under a multi-decade master plan, the campus is planned to reach 10 gigawatts of total power capacity and approximately 8 gigawatts of critical IT capacity, positioning it among the largest purpose-built AI computing developments in North America. The project is being designed to accommodate extremely high-density computing environments, with advanced NVIDIA GPU clusters supporting large-scale AI model training, inference, and other computationally intensive workloads. Power infrastructure is being developed in coordination with AEP Ohio and other energy stakeholders, incorporating dedicated transmission infrastructure, renewable energy resources, and localized grid investments intended to support the campus as its computing capacity expands. The thermal architecture is designed around direct-to-chip liquid cooling and water-efficient closed-loop systems capable of managing the substantial heat generated by dense AI accelerator deployments while improving resource efficiency. The campus is also planned with extensive digital connectivity infrastructure to support the movement of large datasets and distributed computing workloads. Low-latency fiber connections are expected to link the development with regional utility infrastructure, national telecommunications corridors, cloud platforms, and other major technology hubs. Under a long-term arrangement involving OpenAI, NVIDIA, and SB Energy, the PORTS Pike Technology Campus is envisioned as a significant AI infrastructure node supporting the rapid expansion of advanced computing capacity in the United States. Its combination of large-scale electrical infrastructure, high-density GPU computing, liquid cooling, renewable energy integration, and strategic connectivity reflects the emerging requirements of next-generation AI factories.
