Project Overview

RB Inyokern Data Center is a proposed 99 MW high-density AI compute facility planned across a 50-acre industrial site near the intersection of State Route 178 and US Highway 395 in Inyokern, Kern County, California. Developed by R&L Capital, Inc., the single-story, 238,000-square-foot facility is purpose-built to accommodate energy-intensive artificial intelligence model training, inference, and cloud computing workloads. The planned 99 MW capacity provides a substantial power foundation for high-density computing environments, where GPU-based AI infrastructure requires reliable electrical supply and dedicated thermal management systems. A customer-dedicated 115/34.5 kV on-site substation forms a central component of the electrical infrastructure, with power supplied through dual Southern California Edison lines to provide redundant grid connections. Backup power infrastructure includes forty 3 MW Tier 4 Final diesel generators are arranged across two dedicated generator yards, creating additional power resilience for critical computing operations during grid interruptions or maintenance events. The facility also incorporates a dry-cooling closed-loop system designed for the site's desert environment, reducing dependence on local groundwater resources while supporting the thermal requirements of high-density computing equipment. Its location near major road connections provides access to regional transportation infrastructure, while the dedicated electrical architecture supports the facility's planned AI-focused operating model. The combination of substantial IT capacity, dedicated substation infrastructure, dual utility feeds, extensive backup generation, and closed-loop dry cooling creates an infrastructure configuration designed around the demanding requirements of modern AI workloads. As artificial intelligence computing requires increasingly dense power and cooling infrastructure, the proposed RB Inyokern facility is structured to provide a dedicated environment for large-scale AI model development and cloud computing operations.
