Project Overview

The Retelit Bologna Data Center, also known as the Retelit Castenaso Enterprise & Carrier Node, is a key regional colocation, cloud access, and network switching facility operated by Retelit S.p.A., a portfolio company of Asterion Industrial Partners. Located at Via Cà dell'Orbo Nord 35 in Castenaso, in the Villanova di Castenaso area of the Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, the facility serves as an important regional infrastructure hub connecting businesses and digital services across the industrial heartland of Northern Italy with national and European fiber networks. Designed around Tier III-equivalent availability principles, the facility provides resilient technical space for enterprise colocation, edge cloud deployments, network services, disaster recovery, and other mission-critical workloads. Its infrastructure incorporates redundant A+B utility power distribution, static UPS systems, standby emergency diesel generators, and N+1 precision thermal management to maintain reliable operating conditions for customer equipment and network infrastructure. The facility’s strategic value is strengthened by its direct integration into Retelit’s extensive national optical fiber network, providing access to more than 16,000 kilometers of fiber infrastructure across Italy. This connectivity enables low-latency links between the Bologna region and major metropolitan, industrial, and technology centers, while connections toward MIX (Milan Internet eXchange), VSIX (Venice Internet Exchange), and Central European network routes expand access to national and international digital ecosystems. Its location near Bologna also provides proximity to major industrial and commercial markets in Emilia-Romagna, making the facility well positioned for enterprises requiring reliable regional infrastructure and network access.
