Project Overview

The Samsung SDS Chuncheon Data Center is a flagship Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) developed to support disaster recovery, cloud computing, enterprise IT services, and highly automated digital infrastructure operations in Chuncheon, South Korea. The facility is designed around a software-defined architecture that enables greater flexibility in managing computing, storage, networking, and other critical infrastructure resources, allowing workloads to be efficiently allocated according to changing business and operational requirements. One of the campus’s distinctive architectural features is its rounded Y-shaped building design, which is engineered to take advantage of the surrounding mountain breezes and improve natural airflow around the facility. This approach helps reduce the cooling burden placed on mechanical systems and can contribute to lower overall cooling energy consumption. The facility is also designed with efficiency and operational resilience in mind, supporting mission-critical applications that require reliable availability and disaster recovery capabilities. As demand for artificial intelligence computing continues to grow, the Chuncheon campus is undergoing an expansion to accommodate modular AI Data Center infrastructure on adjacent land. The AIDC development is being pursued in partnership with Samsung C&T and is intended to provide additional capacity for high-density AI and accelerated computing workloads. Modular deployment allows the campus to expand computing infrastructure in stages while adapting capacity to customer demand and evolving technology requirements. The combination of software-defined infrastructure, energy-conscious architectural design, disaster recovery capabilities, and AI-focused expansion positions the Samsung SDS Chuncheon Data Center as an evolving digital infrastructure hub.
