Project Overview

The Samsung SDS Gumi Plant One AI Data Center is a major 60 MW brownfield redevelopment project in Gumi, South Korea, transforming the former Samsung Electronics Gumi Plant 1 site into a next-generation artificial intelligence and high-performance computing facility. The legacy manufacturing campus, which operated as a mobile device production hub since 1983, is being repurposed to support the rapidly growing demand for enterprise AI infrastructure and accelerated computing. Samsung SDS acquired the site as part of its strategy to expand dedicated computing capacity for AI services while making productive use of existing industrial infrastructure. The redeveloped facility is planned as Samsung SDS’s second dedicated high-performance computing and GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) data center, providing organizations with access to high-density GPU resources without requiring them to build and operate their own specialized infrastructure. The 60 MW facility is designed to support demanding AI workloads, including model training, inference, machine learning, data analytics, and other accelerated computing applications. Its computing resources are expected to play an important role in powering Samsung SDS’s enterprise AI platforms, including FabriX and Brity Copilot, which are designed to help businesses integrate generative AI and intelligent automation into their operations. The brownfield redevelopment approach also demonstrates how existing industrial properties can be adapted for modern digital infrastructure rather than developing entirely new sites.
