Project Summary

STACK SYD01 78 Lockwood Road Erskine Park 450MW Hyperscale Data Centre

Status: Proposed / Public Exhibition & Planning Assessment Phase (SSD-82211208)   |   Location: 78 Lockwood Road, Erskine Park, NSW 2759, Australia

Project Overview

The STACK Infrastructure 78 Lockwood Road Data Centre, designated as STACK SYD01, is a large-scale hyperscale data center campus proposed by STACK Infrastructure in Erskine Park, within the City of Penrith in Western Sydney, New South Wales 2759, Australia. Situated on a 7.72-hectare industrial parcel within the Fitzpatrick Industrial Estate at 78 Lockwood Road, the development occupies a strategic position within Western Sydney’s established data center infrastructure corridor, where it sits alongside major digital infrastructure facilities operated by companies including Digital Realty, Metronode, and Equinix. Classified as a State Significant Development under application SSD-82211208 within the New South Wales planning framework, the project is master-planned as a multi-building, multi-story campus with an operational capacity of up to 450.0 MW of total IT load capacity. The scale of STACK SYD01 is intended to support hyperscale cloud platforms, enterprise colocation, artificial intelligence infrastructure, high-performance computing, and other data-intensive workloads requiring substantial and resilient computing capacity. Representing an AU$3.7 billion development, the campus is engineered around Tier III-equivalent high-availability principles, incorporating redundant electrical and mechanical systems designed to support continuous operations and facilitate maintenance activities. An on-site high-voltage transmission substation is planned to provide the substantial electrical infrastructure required by the development, while 2N and block-redundant static UPS systems provide additional resilience for critical IT loads. Standby diesel generation infrastructure, with provision for up to 188 generator units, is designed to provide emergency backup during utility interruptions and other electrical contingencies. The cooling architecture combines advanced closed-loop precision cooling with liquid-to-chip cooling readiness, enabling the facility to accommodate the elevated rack densities and thermal requirements associated with AI clusters, GPU-accelerated computing, and next-generation hyperscale workloads. Dual carrier-neutral fiber routes are planned to connect the campus with Sydney’s major network exchanges, providing diverse connectivity options for cloud providers, telecommunications operators, enterprises, and digital service platforms. With its substantial planned IT capacity, dedicated high-voltage infrastructure, resilient electrical architecture, advanced cooling capabilities, and extensive fiber connectivity, STACK SYD01 is positioned to become a significant component of Western Sydney’s expanding hyperscale, cloud, and AI data center ecosystem.
