Project Summary

STT Tokyo 2 Hyperscale Data Center Inzai Chiba Japan

Status: Under Construction (Groundbreaking April 2024)   |   Location: 2-10 Kaguro-Minami 2 Chome, Inzai-shi, Chiba Prefecture 270-1369, Japan

Project Overview

The STT Tokyo 2 Data Center is a purpose-built hyperscale digital infrastructure facility being developed by ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) within Goodman Business Park at 2–10 Kaguro-Minami 2 Chome in Inzai-shi, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Located at the heart of the established Inzai data center hub in Greater Tokyo, the development benefits from the region’s concentration of hyperscale facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, enterprise connectivity, and access to the wider Tokyo metropolitan market. STT Tokyo 2 will form the second major building within the STT Inzai City Campus, complementing the adjacent STT Tokyo 1 facility and expanding the operator’s available capacity in one of Japan’s most important data center clusters. Master-planned to provide up to 38.0 MW of critical IT load capacity, the facility is designed to support mission-critical cloud computing, enterprise applications, high-density accelerated computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and other demanding digital services. The campus incorporates seismic isolation measures designed to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure against earthquake-related risks, an important consideration for data center development in Japan. Cooling infrastructure is designed with readiness for direct-to-chip liquid cooling, allowing the facility to accommodate higher rack densities and the increasing thermal requirements of AI accelerators, GPUs, and other advanced computing platforms. High-efficiency mechanical systems are targeted toward a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.25, supporting improved energy efficiency across the facility and helping optimize operational performance. The electrical architecture includes dual utility substation feeds to provide additional resilience and supply diversity for critical IT infrastructure. STT GDC has also committed to sourcing 100% renewable energy for the campus, aligning the development with broader sustainability objectives and the growing demand from cloud and technology customers for lower-carbon digital infrastructure. With its combination of scalable IT capacity, seismic resilience, advanced cooling readiness, efficient mechanical systems, diversified utility infrastructure, and renewable energy commitments, STT Tokyo 2 represents a significant expansion of STT GDC’s hyperscale platform in the Greater Tokyo market and strengthens the company’s position within the rapidly evolving Inzai data center ecosystem.
