Status: Announced / Under Development | Location: Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC), Reno, NV 89434, USA
SunPower Reno AI Data Center is a purpose-built, high-density artificial intelligence and high-performance computing deployment located within the Reno, Nevada technology hub. Designed to deliver 100 MW of total capacity, the facility is positioned to support demanding AI and HPC workloads that require substantial and consistent power availability. Its infrastructure integrates large-scale solar photovoltaic generation directly with mission-critical computing operations, creating an energy architecture that connects renewable power generation with high-density digital infrastructure. Battery energy storage systems are also incorporated into the development, providing an additional layer of energy management alongside the solar generation and data center load. This combination of solar generation, BESS, and compute infrastructure is intended to create a coordinated power ecosystem around the facility rather than treating electricity supply as a separate external requirement. The 100 MW capacity provides the electrical foundation for deploying high-performance computing systems at significant scale, while the renewable generation component links the campus to the broader transition toward lower-carbon power sources for digital infrastructure. The integration of energy storage can also support the management of variable solar generation and the operational requirements of a continuously running computing environment. Within the Reno technology hub, the project reflects the growing connection between data center development, renewable energy, energy storage, and AI infrastructure. Its design places power availability and energy management at the center of the facility architecture, an increasingly important consideration for AI-focused data centers where computing density can create substantial electrical requirements. The project therefore represents an infrastructure model in which generation, storage, and high-density computing are planned as interconnected components of a single digital infrastructure deployment.
