Project Summary

Telxius Cancun Landing Gateway Edge Data Center Mexico Subsea

Status: Completed / Operational Launch (September 2026)   |   Location: Cancรบn, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Project Overview

The Telxius Cancún Landing Gateway & Edge Data Center is a strategically positioned digital infrastructure facility in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, combining a subsea cable landing station with an AI-ready edge data center. Its key advantage is the ability to bring international subsea connectivity and computing capacity together at the network edge, reducing the distance between data traffic and compute resources. The facility is integrated with the AMX3 / Tikal subsea cable, which has a stated design capacity of up to 380 Tbps, creating a major connectivity gateway for Mexico and wider Latin American markets. This combination makes the site particularly relevant for AI, cloud computing, content delivery, enterprise applications and other latency-sensitive workloads. As a carrier-neutral facility, the gateway is designed to support multiple network operators and service providers, encouraging interconnection and improving network diversity. The edge data center component enables compute and data-processing resources to be deployed closer to users, helping applications respond faster than architectures that rely entirely on distant hyperscale facilities. The Cancún location also provides a strategic connection point between Mexico, the Caribbean and international networks, supporting the growing movement of digital traffic throughout the region. By integrating subsea connectivity, carrier-neutral interconnection and AI-ready edge computing, the development addresses two increasingly important requirements of modern digital infrastructure: high-bandwidth international connectivity and low-latency access to compute. The facility therefore has the potential to serve as an important regional infrastructure node as demand for AI services, cloud platforms, digital content and real-time applications continues to expand across Latin America.
