ADNOC, Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft join forces to deploy AI across energy and data centre operations

Abu Dhabi, UAE, November 2, 2025- Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft today announced a strategic collaboration to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) across ADNOC’s operations and to develop clean-energy infrastructure to support Microsoft’s global AI and data-centre growth.

Under the agreement, ADNOC and Microsoft will co-develop and deploy “AI agents” across the oil major’s value chain to improve efficiency, enable autonomous operations, and reduce emissions. Simultaneously, Masdar and XRG are tasked with developing next-generation energy and infrastructure solutions to help power Microsoft’s expanding global AI/data-centre footprint.

His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, Executive Chairman of XRG and Chairman of Masdar, said, “As AI continues to reshape how value is created and enhanced across industries, ADNOC, Masdar and XRG are not only embedding AI into every layer of our operations – we are also advancing the energy systems that will power AI itself.”

Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith added, “No single company or industry can meet this moment alone. Accelerating the transition to a more sustainable, secure, and inclusive energy future requires deep collaboration between governments, energy providers, technology companies, and innovators everywhere.”

The announcement was made at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi, held ahead of the ADIPEC 2025 conference. The collaboration builds on the existing ADNOC-Microsoft partnership and expands it by bringing in Masdar and XRG to deliver both clean-energy solutions and digital-infrastructure support for AI-driven growth.

Already, ADNOC says it was the first energy company to roll out generative AI enterprise-wide in November 2023 using Microsoft Copilot; since then, “more than 40,000 employees have completed AI training, with utilisation rates above 90 % and over 70,000 hours per month in productivity gained.”

The deal also draws on the findings of the “Powering Possible” 2025 report, produced by ADNOC and Microsoft, which surveyed more than 850 global experts in energy, technology, AI, academia, and finance, and found that 88% of respondents view scaling AI as essential to energy transformation.

By aligning AI deployment and clean-energy infrastructure, the four organisations aim both to drive operational transformation within the energy sector and to ensure that rapidly growing AI/data-centre workloads are powered by sustainable energy systems. Observers say the move underscores Abu Dhabi’s ambition to position itself as a global nexus of energy-tech innovation.
