AirTrunk Secures USD 1.2 Billion Green Loan for Tokyo Hyperscale Data Center Expansion

TOKYO, Japan - March 10, 2026 - Asia-Pacific hyperscale data center operator AirTrunk has secured a USD 1.2 billion green loan to refinance and expand its flagship TOK1 hyperscale data center campus in Tokyo, marking what the company said is the largest data center financing ever completed in Japan.

The financing will support the continued development of the TOK1 campus in East Tokyo, enabling additional capacity to meet rising demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure in the country.

According to the company, the transaction was supported by a consortium of Japanese and international financial institutions, including Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, MUFG Bank, Crédit Agricole CIB, and Société Générale, with 12 banks acting as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners.

Masato Hori, Associate Vice President of Treasury Japan at AirTrunk, said the transaction highlights the strong partnership between the company and its banking partners while reinforcing the company’s financing platform in the region. The structure of the facility also reflects AirTrunk’s commitment to transparency and sustainability in capital markets.

The green loan aligns with AirTrunk’s energy-efficiency standards, which are designed to ensure that its data centers operate more efficiently than regional averages, reducing emissions while delivering the same level of computing capacity. The initiative also supports the company’s target of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030.

Margin incentives linked to the financing will be directed to the company’s social impact fund to support community initiatives in Japan, including programs focused on STEM education, digital equity, biodiversity, and disaster relief.

AirTrunk said the financing will help unlock the next stages of growth at the TOK1 campus as demand for AI and cloud services accelerates across government, enterprise, and research sectors.

The investment forms part of the company’s broader expansion strategy in Japan. AirTrunk has announced plans for multiple hyperscale campuses across the country, including TOK1 and TOK2 in Tokyo and OSK1 and OSK2 in Osaka.

Once fully built, the four campuses are expected to deliver approximately 530 megawatts of total data center capacity to support hyperscale cloud and AI workloads, creating one of the largest digital infrastructure platforms in the country.

AirTrunk said its total planned investment in Japan has now exceeded USD 8 billion, reflecting the growing demand for hyperscale infrastructure as Japan strengthens its position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

The financing also aligns with Japan’s broader Green Transformation strategy, which aims to mobilize large-scale public and private investment to accelerate decarbonization while supporting next-generation digital infrastructure.
