Arcus to Acquire Verne's London Data Center, Expanding UK Colocation Footprint

London, United Kingdom - July 2, 2026 - Infrastructure investor Arcus Infrastructure Partners has agreed to acquire Volta Data Centres from Verne, strengthening its position in the UK colocation market as demand for AI-ready and connectivity-rich data center capacity continues to accelerate.

The transaction, expected to close in July 2026, will transfer ownership of Volta's flagship carrier-neutral facility in central London to Arcus European Infrastructure Fund IV. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition marks Arcus' latest investment in digital infrastructure and builds on its existing colocation platform, Portus Data Centres, which operates facilities across Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.

Volta's London campus provides approximately 6 MW of IT capacity across a 91,000-square-foot facility and serves customers in financial services, telecommunications, cloud, and enterprise sectors. Located in one of Europe's most interconnected digital infrastructure markets, the site hosts more than 40 network carriers, making it an important interconnection hub for businesses requiring low-latency connectivity and resilient network access.

Arcus said the acquisition aligns with its strategy of investing in essential digital infrastructure assets with long-term growth potential. According to the company, the UK market offers a favorable combination of strong demand, constrained supply, and opportunities to enhance existing facilities as enterprises and cloud providers continue expanding AI and digital services.

For Verne, the divestment represents a strategic portfolio realignment rather than a broader retreat from the data center sector. The company said it will sharpen its focus on developing low-carbon, high-density data centers across the Nordic region, where abundant renewable energy and cooler climates provide advantages for AI training, high-performance computing (HPC), and other power-intensive workloads. Verne has increasingly positioned its Icelandic and Nordic campuses as sustainable destinations for next-generation computing infrastructure.

The transaction reflects a broader shift in the European data center market, where investors are increasingly targeting operational facilities in supply-constrained metropolitan areas instead of pursuing only new developments. Central London remains one of Europe's most sought-after colocation markets because of its dense concentration of financial institutions, cloud on-ramps, subsea cable connectivity, and enterprise customers. However, limited land availability, grid constraints, and complex permitting have made existing operational assets increasingly valuable.

The acquisition also strengthens Arcus' ambition to build a pan-European colocation platform through Portus Data Centres. By adding Volta's London facility, the company gains a strategic foothold in one of Europe's largest connectivity ecosystems while complementing its existing portfolio on the continent.

As AI workloads, cloud adoption, and enterprise digital transformation continue driving demand for highly connected infrastructure, ownership of established urban data centers is becoming a key competitive advantage. For Arcus, the acquisition provides immediate operational capacity in a mature market while creating opportunities to expand services and enhance the site's role within Europe's growing digital infrastructure landscape.
