DayOne Commits RM28 Billion to Malaysia Data CenterExpansion, Launches Talent Initiatives

Pranav Hotkar 03 Apr, 2026

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - April 2, 2026 - DayOne Data Centers has announced a cumulative investment commitment of more than RM 28 billion (~USD 6.9 billion) in Malaysia by the end of 2026, alongside new talent development initiatives aimed at supporting the country’s growing AI-ready data Center ecosystem.

The announcement was made at the inaugural Tech & AI Career Expo in Kuala Lumpur, where the company outlined plans to scale Malaysia into its largest global operational footprint, accounting for over 50% of its workforce growth in 2026.

DayOne said the investment will accelerate the development of hyperscale data Center infrastructure across the country, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a regional digital hub amid rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud capacity.

As part of the expansion, the company aims to double its workforce in Malaysia to approximately 1,200 direct employees, while generating more than 5,000 jobs across the broader supply chain ecosystem. The initiative also includes the Phase II expansion of its Global Shared Services Center in Kuala Lumpur, expected to create over 200 high-value roles across finance, procurement, and corporate functions.

In parallel, DayOne unveiled new talent programs designed to build a skilled workforce for the digital infrastructure sector. These include internship and graduate pathways aimed at early-career professionals, as well as a training initiative to develop more than 1,000 data Center engineers at its Regional Operations and Training Hub in Johor.

Chief Executive Officer Jamie Khoo said Malaysia represents a cornerstone of the company’s regional strategy, emphasizing that the investment is backed by operational infrastructure, including its Johor hub and expanded services center in Kuala Lumpur.

The career expo brought together more than 1,000 participants, 30 companies, and 13 universities, connecting talent with over 500 job opportunities across the technology and AI ecosystem. The event was supported by government agencies, including the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, PERKESO, and TalentCorp.

A video message from Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and academia in building a globally competitive digital workforce.

Industry observers note that the combined focus on infrastructure investment and workforce development reflects a broader shift in the data Center sector, where scaling AI capacity increasingly depends on both physical assets and skilled talent.

With the RM28 billion commitment, DayOne is positioning Malaysia as a central pillar in its global expansion strategy, aligning infrastructure growth with long-term talent development to support the next phase of digital and AI-driven demand.
