Rio De Janeiro, Brazil - June 29, 2026 - Brazilian data center operator Elea Data Centers has partnered with renewable energy company AXIA Energia to develop a new data center in the Amazon region that will be powered entirely by renewable electricity, expanding sustainable digital infrastructure into one of the country's fastest-growing connectivity markets. The project aims to support rising cloud and AI computing demand while leveraging Brazil's abundant clean energy resources.
The planned facility will be built in Belém, the capital of Pará state, and will receive renewable electricity supplied through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with AXIA Energia. According to the companies, the development is intended to strengthen digital infrastructure in northern Brazil while creating a regional hub capable of serving cloud providers, enterprises, government agencies, and AI-driven workloads.
Belém has gained strategic importance as Brazil expands digital connectivity across the Amazon region. The city serves as a landing point for multiple submarine cable systems linking South America with North America and Europe, making it an increasingly attractive location for latency-sensitive applications and regional cloud services. Combined with growing renewable energy availability, these connectivity assets are drawing fresh investment in hyperscale-ready infrastructure.
For Elea, the project aligns with its broader strategy of building AI-ready, sustainable data centers across Brazil. The company has recently announced major initiatives including the Rio AI City campus and new high-density AI facilities designed with liquid cooling and renewable power, reflecting increasing demand for infrastructure capable of supporting next-generation AI workloads.
AXIA Energia will supply certified renewable electricity from its generation portfolio, supporting the facility's sustainability objectives while helping reduce the carbon footprint of energy-intensive computing operations. Long-term renewable PPAs have become an increasingly common strategy among data center developers as hyperscale operators seek stable energy pricing alongside lower emissions.
The announcement reflects a broader shift in Latin America's digital infrastructure landscape. As AI adoption accelerates, operators are increasingly looking beyond traditional metropolitan markets such as São Paulo to establish regional data center hubs with access to renewable power, fiber connectivity, and available land. Brazil, whose electricity mix is dominated by hydroelectric, wind, and solar generation, has emerged as one of the region's most attractive destinations for sustainable data center investment.
The Belém development also arrives ahead of COP30, which will be hosted in the city later this year, placing additional international attention on infrastructure projects that combine digital growth with environmental sustainability. For Elea and AXIA, the partnership demonstrates how renewable energy and data center development can be integrated to support both AI infrastructure expansion and Brazil's clean energy ambitions.
