Visakhapatnam, India - April 6, 2026 - Google is set to formally begin construction of a USD 15 billion data center project in Andhra Pradesh on April 28, marking one of the largest digital infrastructure investments in India as demand for AI and cloud capacity accelerates.
The project follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the state government in late 2025 and will be developed across three hyperscale campuses in Visakhapatnam. The sites are located in Adavivaram, Tarluvada, and Rambilli, with the overall development expected to deliver around 1 gigawatt of capacity upon completion.
The initiative will be executed through Google’s subsidiary Raiden Infotech India Pvt Ltd, with infrastructure support from Adani Infra. The development spans more than 600 acres and will be implemented through multiple special-purpose vehicles, each aligned to individual campus builds.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this month, with phased development planned through 2028. Once operational, the facilities are expected to support large-scale artificial intelligence workloads, cloud services, and enterprise applications, positioning the region as a key digital hub on India’s east coast.
In addition to data center infrastructure, the project includes significant connectivity investments, such as submarine cable landings, dedicated cable landing stations, and high-capacity fiber networks. These components are designed to enhance international data connectivity and reduce latency for global traffic flows.
Industry analysts note that the scale of the investment reflects a broader shift toward gigawatt-level data center campuses, driven by the rapid growth of AI computing requirements. Such developments are increasingly integrating compute, power, and connectivity infrastructure into unified ecosystems.
The Andhra Pradesh government has positioned the project as a cornerstone of its digital economy strategy, aimed at attracting global technology investment and strengthening India’s position in the global data center landscape.
