GreenSquareDC Secures Key Approvals for 110MW Sydney Data Centre, Pushing Australia’s AI Infrastructure

Sydney, Australia, September 10, 2025- GreenSquareDC, an Australian data center operator, has announced major progress on its flagship SYD1 data center campus, a 110MW facility designed to handle hyperscale and AI workloads. The company outlined three milestones that position the project as one of the most ambitious in Australia’s digital infrastructure pipeline.

The first milestone is Stage 1 Development Application approval, unlocking 15MW of initial capacity, with completion expected by the third quarter of 2026. This first phase will be AI-enabled, catering to the growing demand for high-performance computing.

Second, GreenSquareDC has appointed Erilyan as the general contractor for Stage 1. The construction firm brings expertise in building large-scale, liquid-cooled data centers, which are essential for power-hungry AI workloads.

Third, the company secured a Complying Development Certificate for demolition and enabling works, allowing immediate activation of the site. The project is located at 3 Brookhollow Avenue in Sydney’s Norwest Business Park, a property formerly used by IBM and Kyndryl.

The SYD1 campus is backed by up to AUD 1.2 billion (USD 759 million) in investment from Partners Group, a Swiss private equity firm. GreenSquareDC says the facility will be developed under its “Five Pillars to Sustainability” framework, with a focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and minimizing environmental impact.

The data halls will be built for high-density computing, with rack configurations ranging from 14kW air-cooled systems to more than 200kW hybrid liquid or immersion setups. At full scale, the campus will be expandable to 96MW of usable IT load.

Beyond Sydney, GreenSquareDC is pursuing land options in Melbourne and Perth as part of its nationwide strategy. The SYD1 site will be connected to major domestic fiber networks, including Vocus, NextGen, TPG, and Telstra, and international subsea cables, ensuring global connectivity for customers.

The company says these approvals and partnerships mark a turning point, laying the foundation for sustainable, AI-ready data center infrastructure in Australia. With hyperscale and AI demand accelerating, SYD1 is positioned to strengthen Australia’s role in the Asia-Pacific digital economy while addressing environmental concerns through design and renewable integration.
