Cairo, Egypt, September 8, 2025- Helios Investment Partners, a London-based private equity firm, has secured preliminary approval from Telecom Egypt to acquire a majority stake in the company’s Regional Data Hub (RDH) in Cairo. The move marks a significant step in expanding digital infrastructure in Egypt and the wider MENA region.
Under the agreement, Helios will acquire a 75-80% stake in a newly formed subsidiary that will own the RDH, while Telecom Egypt will retain a 20-25% share. The RDH business is valued at USD 230 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis, with the potential to increase to USD 260 million if certain performance targets are met.
The deal still needs to clear several milestones before completion, including finalizing definitive agreements, restructuring the RDH into a Telecom Egypt subsidiary, and obtaining necessary regulatory approvals.
The Regional Data Hub is a multi-phase data centre campus located in Cairo. Phase 1 was launched in 2021, offering around 2.5 MW of IT load and reaching full utilization within a year. Phase 2, designed for about 4.6 MW, has received Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification and is registered under the LEED program, underscoring its focus on efficiency and sustainability.
Industry analysts say the acquisition reflects growing demand for data centre services in Egypt and the MENA region, fuelled by cloud adoption, digital transformation, and the rise of regional tech hubs. Helios Investment Partners’ entry is expected to boost the RDH’s expansion plans and position the campus as a key player in Egypt’s digital ecosystem.
A spokesperson for Helios stated, “This partnership with Telecom Egypt aligns perfectly with our strategy to invest in high-quality digital infrastructure across Africa and the Middle East. We look forward to supporting the RDH’s growth and delivering state-of-the-art services to customers.”
With this deal, Telecom Egypt aims to leverage private investment to accelerate its data centre operations while continuing to hold a stake in the business, ensuring long-term collaboration with a leading regional player.
