Next Capital to Acquire Fujitsu's Australian Data Center Business in Major Digital Infrastructure Deal

Pranav Hotkar 20 Jul, 2026

Sydney, Australia - July 20, 2026 - Australian private equity firm Next Capital has agreed to acquire Fujitsu's Australian data center business, marking one of the country's largest digital infrastructure transactions this year as investor interest in AI-ready colocation assets continues to accelerate.

The transaction includes five operational data centers located across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Canberra, along with the associated colocation business that has long supported enterprise, government, and mission-critical IT workloads. While the financial terms were not officially disclosed, the portfolio has been valued at approximately AUD 200 million (~USD 139 million) in market reports.

The acquisition represents a strategic shift for both companies. Fujitsu will continue providing managed services to customers while divesting ownership of the physical data center assets as part of its broader strategy to focus on digital services, cloud, artificial intelligence, and consulting. Next Capital, meanwhile, is expanding into Australia's fast-growing digital infrastructure market, where demand for high-quality colocation facilities has been fueled by hyperscale cloud expansion and enterprise AI adoption.

Fujitsu's Australian portfolio comprises carrier-connected facilities designed to deliver secure and resilient colocation services. The data centers have achieved NABERS certification and support customers requiring high levels of availability, security, and regulatory compliance. The assets also provide opportunities for future upgrades as organizations increasingly deploy AI and high-performance computing workloads that require greater power density and modern infrastructure.

The deal reflects a broader trend of infrastructure investors targeting operational data centers with stable customer bases rather than pursuing lengthy greenfield developments. With suitable land, utility capacity, and planning approvals becoming increasingly constrained in Australia's largest cities, existing facilities are attracting growing attention from financial investors seeking exposure to long-term digital infrastructure demand.

Australia has emerged as one of the Asia-Pacific region's fastest-growing data center markets, supported by cloud adoption, enterprise digital transformation, and rising investment in AI infrastructure. Hyperscale providers and colocation operators continue to expand across Sydney and Melbourne, while secondary markets are also seeing increased development activity as operators seek additional capacity.

For Next Capital, the acquisition establishes an immediate presence in a sector benefiting from structural growth driven by cloud computing, data sovereignty requirements, and artificial intelligence. The portfolio's national footprint also provides a platform for future investment and modernization as customer demand evolves toward higher-density computing environments.

The agreement follows reports that Fujitsu had been exploring strategic options for its Australian data center portfolio over the past two years. The completion of the transaction signals another shift in ownership across Australia's digital infrastructure landscape, where institutional investors and private equity firms are increasingly acquiring established assets to capitalize on the expanding demand for AI-ready colocation capacity.
