Saline Township, Michigan, October 30, 2025- OpenAI, Oracle, and Related Digital have announced plans to build a hyperscale “Stargate” data centre in Saline Township, marking one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in the United States. The facility, described as exceeding one gigawatt of computing capacity, will be developed by Related Digital, with Oracle serving as the primary tenant and OpenAI as the anchor partner driving AI workloads.

The companies confirmed the project in a joint statement, saying construction is expected to begin in early 2026. The campus will occupy roughly 250 acres in Washtenaw County and is designed to support large-scale training and inference systems for OpenAI’s future models. According to Related Digital, the development will represent a multi-billion-dollar investment and generate around 2,500 union construction jobs during its build phase, along with several thousand indirect and permanent positions once operational.

This project underscores our commitment to building the infrastructure needed for the next generation of AI,” said an OpenAI spokesperson in the announcement. Oracle added that its cloud platform will provide “the backbone for advanced AI computing at scale,” integrating directly with OpenAI’s expanding training clusters. Related Digital, a division of Related Companies, will lead site design and construction.

Local officials in Saline Township said they have been in contact with the developers about power, water, and zoning requirements. Utility provider DTE Energy confirmed discussions about providing electricity to the site, which is planned to exceed one gigawatt of total capacity, equivalent to the power demand of hundreds of thousands of homes. State agencies are also reviewing potential incentive packages aimed at supporting job creation and grid modernization.

The Michigan complex is part of OpenAI’s broader Stargate program, a multi-site initiative launched in partnership with Oracle to establish AI-ready data centres across the United States. With the addition of the Saline Township project, OpenAI and Oracle’s combined Stargate footprint now surpasses eight gigawatts of planned capacity. The companies have not disclosed an exact completion date but said the facility will open in phases once key infrastructure milestones are met.
