Ljubljana, Slovenia, October 6, 2025- Pošta Slovenije has officially handed over a newly built national data centre to Slovenia’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, marking a strategic milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen sovereign digital infrastructure and energy-efficient cloud capacity.
The new facility, located in Ljubljana and interconnected with the Ministry’s two primary leased data centres, is part of Pošta Slovenije’s accelerated expansion plan that now totals over 1,400 m² of high-security hosting space across Maribor and Ljubljana. The expansion is designed to ensure greater reliability, security, and resilience for Slovenia’s public-sector IT systems and emerging digital services.
Built to TIER III standards and compliant with ISO 27001 and ISO 50001, the facility features redundant power systems, advanced cooling, and renewable-energy integration. According to Pošta, each new site has been planned with low seismic and flood risk, coupled with high energy efficiency achieved through renewable supply and precision monitoring systems.
“Our data centres are among the most modern in Slovenia, both in terms of technology and security. We are delighted to have further enhanced our cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation by establishing a new data centre, which will contribute significantly to the greater reliability, security, and resilience of the national digital infrastructure and enable the further development of modern digital services in Slovenia,” said Marko Cegnar, General Manager of Pošta Slovenije.
Minister of Digital Transformation Ksenija Klampfer described the facility as “more than just a technological facility, it is an infrastructure that will enable the further development of eGovernment and modern public services and promote innovation and the economy. At the same time, it proves that the state, public companies and the technology sector can successfully cooperate in creating the digital future of Slovenia.”
Pošta Slovenije, which provides hosting services to banks, telecom operators, IT firms, and government agencies, emphasised that all client data is stored exclusively within Slovenia, aligning with the nation’s data-sovereignty and cybersecurity priorities. The operator said the project also advances its long-term sustainability goals under its energy-management certification.
The expansion comes as Slovenia accelerates investment in national AI, HPC, and cloud programmes. The new Pošta-operated facility is expected to serve as a cornerstone for both public-sector workloads and private enterprise deployments requiring high reliability and compliance.
